What we’ve been up to... |
It has only been one week since our last Newsletter, but we didn't want to fill anyone’s inboxes over Thanksgiving weekend. We hope that everyone is able to take time away from work and computers to recharge for a few days!
In the meantime, since the last Newsletter, here’s what we’ve been doing...
ECN Coaching Conversation – A new addition this year to the Educational Coaching Network’s work are the free ECN Coaching Conversations. The first Coaching Conversation took place online via Zoom this past Tuesday. The Coaching Conversations are led by Alison Gordon and Sharon Sheehan, and these sessions are designed to provide instructional coaches with a place to apply what they have learned during the formal workshops as well as to build community among coaches across Illinois and beyond. With
dozens in attendance, coaches expressed how powerful it is to be able to network beyond their districts and ROEs and across the state!
Celebration of Neurodiversity Fair and Temple Grandin presentation – On Tuesday evening, Northern Illinois University hosted a Celebration of Neurodiversity Fair followed by a presentation given by Dr. Temple Grandin. Being in attendance at each of these events provided fun and compelling learning opportunities.
Future Educators Conference – With school districts in attendance from throughout the VALEES and Waubonsee Community College region, hundreds of students (mostly high school but also including community college and middle school students) joined us for another Future Educators Conference. Students engaged in breakout sessions on topics ranging from instructional strategies to creating accessible and inclusive environments to learning about the educator workforce.
Illinois Joint Annual Conference/Triple-I – As you receive this, our team is at the Hyatt Regency Chicago at the Joint Annual Conference/Triple I. If you are there, keep a look out or send a message, and let’s connect!

ECN announces new Coaching and Wellness Workshop |
Instructional coaching and supporting the wellness of both educators and students alike are two keys to long-term retention of teachers.
On December 10, 2024, at NIU Naperville, the Educational Coaching Network will host its newest workshop – Coaching and Wellness: Creating a Mentally Healthy Classroom. This workshop supports both keys to educator retention mentioned above!
The workshop is timed perfectly to allow teachers, instructional coaches, support services professionals, and school administrators to engage in thinking about classroom practices that support mental and emotional well-being and provide a stronger foundation for academic learning.

ILACEP Summit 2025 Announced |
The Illinois Alliance for Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (ILACEP) has announced its 2025 Dual Credit Summit. As was done two years ago, the Summit will be simultaneously held in a Northern and Southern location to make it accessible to as many educators across Illinois as possible. This year’s 2025 ILACEP Dual Credit Summit will be held on Friday, March 21 at both Prairie State College and Vienna High School.
In addition to the announcement of the date and locations for this year’s ILACEP Dual Credit Summit, the Call for Proposals is also available! There are so many great strategies being implemented to support student success with dual credit across Illinois from the classroom to regional systems.
We look forward to attending this year’s ILACEP Dual Credit Summit at both locations, and we are excited to learn from and with educators from both school districts and postsecondary institutions!

KEEP Illinois Update |
This Fall, we published The Road to Retention: Understanding the educator shortage and ways to engage and keep educators. This report provides both a comprehensive review of available literature, and critical recommendations for policies and practices to not only increase retention but to further improve engagement throughout the careers of educators. The goal is to help educators continue to grow and flourish from when we are new in classrooms all the way
through to retirement. If you would prefer a short video summary rather than reading the report, check out this video on our YouTube channel, KEEP Illinois – The Road to Retention – Report Overview.
Now, we have reached out to KEEP Illinois participants and asked for feedback on the recommendations contained in the report. We cannot move forward on all of the recommendations at one time, but we can begin by doing those that are going to be easiest, those that will have the most significant impact, or those that are both easy and can have a significant impact!
We look forward to providing additional updates after survey responses have come in. If you would like to join other teachers, administrators, clinicians, and other educators from across Illinois by becoming involved in KEEP Illinois, please complete this short interest form.
