HB5020 – How to get involved and an update
HB5020, an amendment to the Illinois Dual Credit Quality Act, was originally scheduled to appear before the General Assembly’s Higher Education Committee on the afternoon of March 21, 2024. Earlier in the day on March 21, 2024, as the Illinois P-20 Network understands, the bill was pulled from the planned hearing to allow more time for stakeholders and legislators to continue to engage in additional work.

As the Illinois P-20 Network receives additional updates, those will be communicated to the Dual Credit Think Tank and to the field. Additionally, throughout this process, the Illinois P-20 Network will continue to engage and encourage the involvement of educators from both school districts and postsecondary institutions to put into place the best possible solutions for our students.

Using HB5020 as a guide, the Illinois P-20 Network has posted information on its website to help educators submit witness slips to the General Assembly and to ensure that the expertise of practitioners is included in educational policymaking processes. Learn more about how to share your expertise and impact the process that is undertaken by legislators.

If you have any questions or comments or would like to become involved as a member of the Dual Credit Think Tank, please feel free to contact Rodrigo López, Director of P-20 Initiatives (rodrigo.lopez@niu.edu).
