IL MTSS Network Summer Newsletter
Our quarterly newsletter is dedicated to sharing the resources and information you need to achieve learning growth for your students.
It’s back-to-school time! Here are our top five tips to prepare your staff and MTSS systems.
5. Start with attendance: Attendance is a core concern for one obvious reason – if students aren’t present, none of our interventions can be effective. Check out these tiered practices from the nonprofit Attendance Works. And view this Attendance Conversation Starter for more detailed analysis and interventions tailored to your school.
4. Build relationships with families: Family engagement is vital to improve student attendance and performance. Create a welcoming school culture and build positive relationships with families, and you’ll set the stage for student success. This article from the Institution for Educational Sciences offers strategies for family engagement.
3. Use quality data-based decision making: We get it. Collecting and analyzing data is time consuming and challenging. But setting up your data systems effectively, and following through consistently, helps you make effective decisions for student success. Check out our MTSS Conversation Starters and this Routledge data resource for guidance on what data to collect and how to use it effectively.
2. Prioritize SEL, school climate and mental health: Social and emotional learning are key to student success. Self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills and good decision-making make everything else possible. Check out these resources from CASEL to learn how SEL can reduce bullying, increase belonging and promote engagement. Look back at our inspirational interview with Director of Student Services Kim West to learn how her district put comprehensive mental health supports into every school.
1. Get support for yourself and your staff: Effective MTSS implementation is challenging, but you don’t have to do it alone. Use our resources, contact us for district-specific on-site coaching, or join one of our Online Learning Networks to connect with peers and mentors who will support you. |
