What we’ve been up to... |
Over the past two weeks, we’ve been busy! Specifically...
KEEP Illinois and the Dual Credit Think Tank – This was a big week for both KEEP Illinois and the Dual Credit Think Tank.
Check out the full articles below for updates!
Working with partners in the field...
McHenry County College Dual Credit High School Counselor Workshops - Over the past two weeks, McHenry County College has invited high school counselors from across its region to explore dual credit in more detail along with MCC leaders. These workshops have allowed for great dialogue about systems and processes as well as in relation to specific students.
Individual school district consultations – Over the past two weeks, Illinois P-20 Network team members have engaged in individual consultation conversations with school districts across Illinois on topics ranging from strategic planning to career readiness to assessment to school improvement to early college credit to collective bargaining. We hope we offer something of value to partners in such conversations, and we always learn so much!
Lots of preparations – As you will see in our next Newsletter, during the upcoming two weeks, we are very excited about lots of events with students and with educators, so we’ve been busy over the past two weeks with all types of preparation!

KEEP Illinois – The Road to Retention Report Released |
|
This week, KEEP Illinois met to review the now released report, The Road to Retention: Understanding the educator shortage and ways to engage and keep educators. This report reviews the existing literature on educator retention and engagement as well as
state and national data. The report also makes recommendations regarding both policies and practices that can enhance educator engagement (and, ultimately, retention).
During the KEEP Illinois meetings, participants discussed which recommendations should be priorities as well as which are most realistic. Following those discussions, KEEP Illinois participants will receive a short follow-up survey. Based on those survey results and the discussions, a KEEP Illinois action plan will be put into place and future efforts will focus on implementing policies and practices across Illinois that are likely to increase engagement for all educators so they can continue to thrive throughout their careers.

Dual Credit Think Tank Update
|
This week, the Dual Credit Think Tank met and reviewed the data that resulted from the Legislative Priorities Survey that was launched following the August 1 Legislative Update Webinar. The survey sought to identify which topics related to HB5020 were most important to the field. Once those topics were identified, the goal would be to relaunch dialogue on these topics among interested and diverse groups of practitioners from school districts and
postsecondary institutions to try to arrive at compromise and consensus.
During this week’s Dual Credit Think Tank meetings, participants collaboratively analyzed the data. They sought to identify what patterns emerged in the data and which topics respondents felt were most important for further discussion (including identification of the evidence that supported these topics).
As this Newsletter goes out, the Illinois P-20 Network team is reviewing the responses from Dual Credit Think Tank participants and identifying action steps, which will be communicated to Think Tank participants in the coming weeks. To stay up-to-date on what is taking place with the Dual Credit Think Tank, please visit the Illinois P-20 Network’s Dual Credit Think Tank website and watch for upcoming Illinois P-20 Network Newsletters.

Register Now for ECN Foundations of Instructional Coaching
|
Your organization has invested a lot of money in instructional coaches and other instructional support staff. Have you also invested in helping them become the best coaches they can be?
The Educational Coaching Network (ECN) has a full slate of professional learning opportunities for this year, and we are in the final weeks to register for the forthcoming Foundations of Instructional Coaching Institute.
The Foundations of Instructional Coaching Institute with Jim Knight and Michelle Harris is a series of five workshops about coaching, instruction, and collaboration. This is a great opportunity to train new coaches, get teams on the same page, and create a culture of coaching. With five sessions, this Institute promotes long-term, lasting learning over the course of the year.
Additionally, this year, ECN is adding free online Coaching Conversation Sessions between workshops to allow attendees to share more and better apply their learning to their own schools and districts!
All ECN events are located at NIU Naperville. Discounts are available for teams and early registration. As always, registration includes ample food and parking, books and materials, and Professional Development Hours.
