What we’ve been up to... |
From early childhood through postsecondary and adult education, and from family engagement to curriculum and instruction, this has been an exciting couple of weeks with a wide range of activities, including...
Naperville 203 SUCCESS 2025 Back to School Cookout – In addition to being able to chat with teachers, administrators, and school board members, it was also very interesting to have conversations about early childhood family outreach in Naperville 203 and talk about school district and
public library integration and after-school activities in the community for middle school and high school students.
DuPage County Dual Credit Leadership – We have had the privilege to collaborate with the College of DuPage, school districts throughout DuPage County, and the DuPage Area Occupational Education System (DAOES) to build structures, systems, and processes to support collaboration around dual credit. Last week’s worktime moved this work forward in significant ways.

Register Now for the ECN Student-Centered Coaching Series with Diane Sweeney |
We are so excited for this year’s innovative and custom ECN Student-Centered Coaching Series with Diane Sweeney. We have been privileged to partner with Diane to develop a new and unique approach to examining Student-Centered Coaching this year. This year’s coaching promotes partnerships between coaches and both teachers and administrators, as well as aligning with The School Leader Paradigm from the Illinois Principals
Association, a model for promoting growth among school leaders.
This year’s series includes six workshops divided into three levels. Participants can choose to attend as few or as many individual workshops as they want. The paired workshop dates are designed to promote the attendance of administrators and coaches together on the first day and just coaches on the second day. Of course, coaches are welcome and encouraged to attend without administrators, and administrators are welcome to attend both days of each level!
November 17 – 18 – Level 1 Workshops
February 24 – 25 – Level 2 Workshops
April 14 – 15 – Level 3 Workshops

Seeking Feedback – Northern Illinois Educators Rising Event |
Through conversation between the Illinois Education Association, the Illinois P-20 Network, and the Northern Illinois University College of Education, there is a strong desire to support students, teachers, and school districts throughout northern Illinois with a regional Educators Rising event this year in addition to the statewide competition that has been hosted in Normal.
Prior to setting a date or determining the specific program, the planning group is seeking feedback from teachers and administrators throughout northern Illinois to design an event that is as accessible and meaningful as possible for students and teachers.

Check out the updated Illinois Postsecondary Profiles website |
Recently, the Illinois Postsecondary Profiles website underwent a major update! The Illinois Postsecondary Profiles website offers options for students and families to explore career and postsecondary institutions as well as for educators and researchers to take advantage of the rich data that underlies the website. The Illinois Postsecondary Profiles website is a joint effort of the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the Illinois
Community College Board, and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. The website is created and maintained by the Northern Illinois University Illinois Interactive Report Cards office, and the data at the foundation of the website is directly ingested into the site from the state agencies. This unique mix of data and its engaging presentation is a must-see and must-use for administrators, faculty and teachers, advisors and counselors, students and families, and researchers.

CTE Accessibility Hub Survey |
Please consider taking (and sharing) this important survey!
Responses to this survey will directly inform the creation of the CTE Accessibility Hub – a new resource center hosted by the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) and funded by the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation (MEAF). This Hub will offer free high-quality supports designed to help educators increase access to learning environments across all CTE pathways.
The survey should take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete and is designed for CTE educators and staff. While survey respondents must be at least 18 years old and, of course, consent to the terms of the survey, if respondents share their name and email address toward the end of the survey, they will be entered into a drawing to win one of four $50 Amazon gift cards.

High School and Community College Educators: Register a Team for the NIU Innovation Challenge! |
NIU STEAM and the Northern Illinois Center for Community Sustainability (NICCS) are excited to announce their upcoming Innovation Challenge for this year. The goal is to provide a comprehensive opportunity for
high school and community college students to strengthen and utilize their critical thinking and communication skills by collaborating with team members to solve an authentic problem.
Students will work in teams of 2 to 4 to analyze an authentic problem, utilize the authentic employability competencies, and collaborate with an industry partner to generate a solution. By aligning to these goals, the Innovation Challenge meets the criteria established by ISBE for Team-Based Challenges.
Information sessions will be held over Zoom from 4 to 4.30 PM on September 23 and October 14. Access the Zoom information sessions via this link. You can also register your team directly via the NIU Innovation Challenge Registration Form.

FREE Adventure-Based Learning Workshop
|
Share with physical education teachers, counselors, social workers, and other educators!
This free workshop will be held on Saturday, November 8, from 12 to 4.30 PM at Glenbard East High School.
The workshop is designed to meet the wide range of interests and varied experiences of educators who may be looking to introduce, refine, or elevate their offerings of Adventure-Based Learning (ABL). In this interactive workshop, participants will engage in a series of activities that reinforce key ABL principles (e.g., Community Building, Communication, Decision Making, etc.) and which support the work school districts are doing with students on Social and Emotional Learning and the ISBE Essential Skills.
The agenda includes an overview and sequencing of ABL both in physical education and in other settings, including: belaying, low elements, high level group initiatives, and high elements. Led by experienced Facilitators Nicole Miller and Jim Ressler, participants will leave with resources for instant implementation – including planning materials, facilitation guides, and a range of processing strategies to document and enhance the learning experience. Attendance is free, and Professional Development Hours are available!
