P-20 Network Newsletter — August 25, 2023

Aimee Galvin from Stand for Children Illinois and Rodrigo López from the Illinois P-20 Network will host an informational webinar on the HLC’s proposed policy changes and share comments submitted to the HLC as part of their open comment period. The HLC Board is expected to vote on this proposal at its November 2023 meeting following the proposal’s second reading.

They will also share a range of perspectives on the potential implications for dual credit partnerships as gathered from the field.

The Illinois MTSS Network needs you as part of their Learning Networks! This year, the Illinois MTSS Network is offering five Learning Networks. Learning Networks are collaborative professional learning opportunities offered for PK-12 educators in a convenient 90-minute virtual format. All sessions are recorded, and online resources are provided. Team pricing is available, and ISBE Professional Development Hours can be earned.

By connecting in a Learning Network to examine best practices, reflect on current practice, and gather insights on possible revisions of practice, participants will grow professionally and help strengthen their current school or district’s MTSS framework, policies, and procedures. NIU Esports is hosting its first Healthy Gaming Day! Designed exclusively for high school and college esports directors and coaches, Healthy Gaming Day consists of in-person, interactive sessions covering nutrition, physical health, mental health, academic support, and diversity in competitive esports. Attendees will leave with ideas and techniques they can implement in their esports programs. The event takes place at Northern Illinois University’s Esports Arena, on Friday, October 6, from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Cost is $170. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Seating is limited to 50, so register today!

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) has announced its fifth annual FAFSA Symposium and has opened a call for proposals. The FAFSA Symposium is a one-day symposium for attendees to learn about best practices for supporting students in completing a financial aid application. While dates have not yet been published, two opportunities will be available for attendees to participate in Central Illinois and the Chicagoland area in October and November. Call for Proposals - School counselors, college and career staff, financial aid administrators, community-based organizations, and other college-access professionals who support students and families through the financial aid process are invited to submit a session proposal to present at one or both locations for the FAFSA Symposium. The online session proposal form is now open and will close Friday, September 8, 2023. Session guidelines can be found on the FAFSA Symposium page, as well as on the session proposal form.
