Fully Supported Coaches – A Key to Teacher Engagement
One of the Illinois P-20 Network’s four Areas of Focus is Educator Engagement. As will be evident with the forthcoming publication of the KEEP Illinois research review regarding educator retention and career-long engagement, there are many key elements to retaining educators throughout their careers and helping them grow and thrive. While climate and culture, salary, collaboration, professional autonomy, and relationships with peers and supervisors are all critical, one strategy that can consistently improve all of these other elements (with the exception of salary) is coaching.

The Educational Coaching Network (ECN) is designed to serve as a partner to organizations on their journeys with developing, implementing, and maintaining coaching as well as a partner to individual coaches, from new coaches to experienced coaches.

Visit this new post on the Illinois P-20 Network website to learn more about the connections between KEEP Illinois and ECN, including registering for ECN workshops and custom and individualized partner services.

The Illinois Department of Early Childhood
As you likely know, the Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC) has launched. With the website up-and-running, the IDEC joins ISBE, ICCB, IBHE, and ISAC as one of our state agencies focused on education in Illinois.

The first order of business for the IDEC continues to be the transition from the previous structures and services to support early childhood policy and practice in Illinois. This transitional work is being led by the Transition Advisory Committee. As part of that work, IDEC is offering both feedback forms and a series of listening sessions every other month. These are open to anyone, especially early childhood parents and educators. For more information on all of these feedback opportunities, check out (and share) the IDEC Transition Advisory Committee Engagement Opportunities and Listening Sessions website.

IDEC will provide a central statewide policy and data home for early childhood moving forward. At the same time, the structure of educational organizations in Illinois – from state agencies to school districts to community colleges to workforce professional learning organizations – is why the Illinois P-20 Network exists. The Illinois P-20 Network will continue to seek to bring together partners to collaborate across our disparate systems to implement effective assessment and instructional strategies for all learners across Illinois.
